| Pipeline Telemetry System |
 |
ProtoLink designed and fabricated three enclosures housing Koyo PLCs to detect
flow rate discrepancies between each end of a pipeline located on the eastern
shore of the Caspian Sea. On both ends of the pipeline, the system polls an
Omni6000 flow computer via Modbus to collect flow data. Data was telemetered
between these sites and a third location using Microwave Data Systems MDS 4310
radio transceivers and the DirectNET protocol. The system presents data to the
user in both Russian and English via a Triton Technologies display panel.
In delivering this solar-powered system, ProtoLink was responsible for all
hardware, software, and integration, including all panels, drawings, and PLC
code development. To address similar functionality requirements at the three
locations, ProtoLink developed self-configuring PLC code, thereby eliminating
the need for individual control programs for each site and simplifying system
maintenance.
